Video tape to DVD and USB

YesVideo will transfer your video tapes to DVD or USB, preserving your video memories for a lifetime. Copy your USB into your Windows or Macintosh computer to watch or send to friends and family worldwide.

Videotape begins to degrade immediately and can fade away in as little as ten years.

MiniDV tape is more fragile than larger tape formats like VHS so that pixelisation can occur sooner.

Mould on tapes

1. Video tapes, even when stored carefully can grow mould on the tape.
2. The mould will look like white powder when seen through the clear part of the case.
3. Unfortunately, it is like a solid glue that has also grown between the tape, causing the tape to stick when wound. This sticking often will cause the tape to break.
4. A two-hour tape is about 250 meters long, so the tape could snap several times, removing mould.
5. YesVideo runs the tape through a special winder with a slowly moving absorbent cloth that runs against the tape, removing mould.
6. YesVideo charge $29.95 to remove the mould, but where there are multiple breaks due to lots of moulds, there will be extra charges to repair the tape.
7. The tape cleaner does not remove all the mould on the tape edge, only enough to be able to play it in our players without damaging them. The mould will continue to grow and eventually make playing the tape impossible.

Movie Film to DVD and USB

Movie film has never been easy to watch than on DVD or from a USB in a computer or TV set with a USB connection.

Original movie film breaks, kinks, flickers, and over time, fades. Repairing film without professional equipment is almost impossible to do well. Projectors are difficult to load, and they jam easily. Replacement parts and projector lamps are hard to find.

Home movies on YesVideo are as easy to watch as a Hollywood movie DVD. YesVideo has developed proprietary technology to make your movie films play better on a DVD player or computer or TV set with a USB connection than they ever did on a projector by

• Reducing film flicker.
• cleaning the film, utilising special light and capturing the image directly to DVD makes movie film images appear remarkably sharp and colourful.
• Using digital editing to eliminate film leader and unexposed footage makes the movie more watchable.

The result is a better home movie experience on DVD than was ever available on a movie projector.

Don't trust your valuable film reels to inexperienced amateur operators.

Audio and data CDs (Discs) to USB

YesVideo now offers the service of transferring your prized collection of music CDs to USB for you to copy to your Macintosh, Windows or Unix computer.

When converting from audio tape all the tracks will be in one file.
When converting from CDs, YesVideo can also add each music track's metadata where available.

YesVideo will also transfer audio to USB audio such as lectures, talks, speeches, recordings, etc. to USB.
In some cases where these are badly recorded or have deteriorated, we may have to adjust the sound levels, which could add to the cost.
We also have a professional audio engineer who can re-master recordings, split the tracks from tape and even usually remove background interference at $90 per hour.

Audio Tape Cassettes to USB

YesVideo now offers the service of transferring to digital your prized collection of 60-minute and 90-minute audio cassettes to USB for you to copy to your Macintosh, Windows or Unix computer.

We do not add any music track's metadata from audio tape.

YesVideo will also transfer audio to USB, such as lectures, talks, speeches, recordings, etc. to USB.
In some cases where these are badly recorded or have deteriorated, we may have to adjust the sound levels, which could add to the cost.
We also have a professional audio engineer who can re-master recordings and usually remove background interference at $90 per hour. Our audio engineer can also transfer old reel-to-reel tapes, as well as bake the tapes to remove stickiness and brittleness, at about $90 per hour.

DVDs - Video and Data - to USB

YesVideo now offers the service of transferring to digital your prized collection of DVDs to USB for you to copy to your Macintosh, Windows or Unix computer.
Please don't throw away those irreplaceable DVDs that you have collected over the years, whether they be your personal videos transferred in the past to DVD, some done by YesVideo, DVDs with your favourite films, or training DVDs that you cannot play because you do not have a DVD player.

YesVideo will also transfer DVD audio to USB, such as lectures, talks, speeches, recordings, etc. to USB.

What to do to recover VHS, MiniDV and Hi8 video and even audio tapes damaged by flood water.

Do not try to play flood-damaged tapes, even if you think you have cleaned and dried them without doing the following.

Your tapes may be contaminated with who knows what, so please handle them carefully. Wear gloves, work in the open air, and wear a mask. You should be used to that by now!!

Do not try to dry out the VHS tape. This will permanently damage the tape. Gently swish the tape in a bucket of rainwater or distilled water. As distilled water is unlikely to be easily available, bottled water is the next choice. Anything that leaves a residue (soap, etc.) will likely clog the tape heads if it isn't completely removed. Tap water, and even filtered water, contains chlorine. Chlorine will promote the oxidation of your tape, so AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS.

Next, you must open the shell manually. Sometimes the casing is welded or rusted shut. In this case, you will need to pry the case apart. This will necessitate the purchase of a new tape shell. Always keep the tapes wet, do not let them dry out.

Once the tape is placed in a new shell and sufficiently cleaned with the water, you will need to dry it using a laboratory oven. Oh, you don't have a laboratory oven lying around! You must NOT use a domestic oven, as the temperature varies over a wide range, and if you exceed 65 deg C, you could melt your tapes into mush. If you insist on continuing to do it yourself, there is another way to dry your tapes. It is not as good as a professional would do and not as secure. Find some ordinary domestic white rice. Sprinkle it on a pan, and place the rice in a warm oven, about 110 deg C, for about 1/2 to 1 hour. DO NOT PLACE THE TAPE IN THE OVEN! Only the white rice. Now cover the damp, cleaned tape with the rice. Dry rice is a desiccant, i.e. it absorbs moisture. Repeat as necessary with more rice until the tape is dry. (You can, of course, use the white rice technique to dry other wet items.) Will your tape be playable? We don't. It depends on lots of factors. It will, however, be dry.

Unfortunately, YesVideo cannot offer the service of recovering water-damaged tapes. However, we can try and remove mould from tapes at $29.95 per tape.

PLEASE, PLEASE just get your friends and families to have their valuable old tapes and films transferred to DVD BEFORE disaster strikes, preferably at YesVideo!
